A careful selection and recovery of the ancient clones of Aglianico in the estate of Mirabella Eclano took to the diffusion of two biotypes of this centenary, ungrafted vine. These varieties are identified with the name of Antonio Mastroberardino and present different features: low productivity, sparse grapes and thick peels. The denomination Irpinia Aglianico DOC considers the use of 100% Aglianico grapes. The vineyards are cultivated in the territory of the estate Mirabella Eclano, with south-west exposition and deep soils full of sands, clay in the lower level and some traces of limestone. It is located 400 meters on the sea level. Spur pruned training method on espalier, with 5000 stumps per hectare that are able to develop 50 quintals per hectare. The vineyard is 10 years old and the manual harvest is planned on October. The red wine making considers a long maceration at controlled temperature, followed by 12 months aging in oak barriques and further six months maturation in the bottle.
